Es gilt ein rechtskräftiger Beschluss über den Wahltermin für die 21. Landtags- und Gemeinderatswahlen, deren regulärer Termin Oktober 2020 wäre. Es gelten Halbjahresschritte: H1 umfasst den 1. Januar bis 30. Juni, H2 den 1. Juli bis 31. Dezember.

Spekulationen über eine Vorverlegung

Michael Häupl, im Jänner 2018 amtierender Bürgermeiser von Wien, kandidiert beim Landesparteitag der SPÖ am 27. Jänner 2018 nicht und wird den Landesparteivorsitz übergeben. (2)

Pro

Unter Berücksichtigung der aktuellen Wahlumfragen (3), könnte eine Vorverlegung den Taktikern der regierenden Parteien opportun erscheinen:

  • SPÖ -- Die Sozialdemokraten könnten wie bei den jüngsten Nationalratswahlen von der Schwäche der Grünen profitieren. Der neue Spitzenkandidat wird sich absehbar rasch abnützen.
  • FPÖ -- Die FPÖ muss aufgrund ihrer Regierungsbeteiligung zunehmend Gegenwind befürchten. (4)
  • ÖVP -- Die Wahlvorhersagen versprechen aufgrund des "Kurz-Effekts" derzeit hohe Zugewinne.
  • Grüne -- Die aktuellen Unsicherheiten bei der Liste Pilz könnten eine Chance bieten, ihre Stimmverluste zu minimieren.

Contra

Dagegen spricht, dass sowohl SPÖ als auch Grüne - d.h. die beiden derzeit machthabenden Parteien - bei Neuwahlen mit massiven Stimmverlusten und damit herben Einbußen bei der Parteiförderung rechnen müssen. (3)
